Which Tools are available for which Tablets and Phones?
A growing range of Office tools are now available for Phones and Tablets. Use this post to find which tools are available for your device and related overview articles. I will update this as new tools are released.
I have had a few questions about this recently, SharePoint backup is a little out of my normal territory. But there are a lot of IT people who have to look after SharePoint sites who may not have this information to hand and since I’ve had questions, I have put together some resources to get you started.
This post is for training providers who are moving into SharePoint end user training. It covers how to check email related functions are working and response times are reasonable, once your IT department have completed the setup.
Checking Email Functionality
Demonstrating features such as Workflows, Alerts and Tasks all depend on this feature working. It requires some additional steps behind the scenes which may have been missed.
Navigate to any list or library in the site
Look for the Library Tools tab (or List tools Tab) and click on Library
If you are not seeing the Alert icon (The Bell) in the SharePoint 2010 ribbon on lists or libraries, your friendly Server Guru/SharePoint Admin will need to tweak the set up. The underlying problem is that SharePoint needs to know where to find the SMTP server (your mail server) so it can generate emails.
In order to send email eg use the notification setting or alerts – you need to
Set up SMTP
In Central Admin – enter the information to tell SharePoint where the SMTP server is
This problem will arise when you have a combination of a shallow height screen and a wiki page (you may have a wiki page without realising it – SharePoint uses them as the default in places, and normally that’s not a bad thing).
My Series of Tutorials showing building and using custom lists in SharePoint 2010/SharePoint Online (Office 365) is now gathered together in a convenient YouTube Playlist. Over the next few weeks I will be adding workflows and KPIs to this series.
